Hemianthus callitrichoides, commonly known as Dwarf Baby Tears or HC, is a semi-aquatic plant from the Linderniaceae family, native to the West Indies, including The Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. In The Bahamas, it's also referred to as "water-starwort."
This plant is popular as a foreground or carpeting option in planted aquariums due to its ability to create a lush, green carpet. Hemianthus callitrichoides has relatively high light and CO₂ requirements for optimal growth. Once established, it produces runners—individual stems that branch off and spread across the substrate.
Hemianthus callitrichoides thrives in a pH range of 6 to 7.5. It grows to a height of 1 to 2 inches and requires medium to high light, along with CO₂ supplementation. The plant propagates by cutting new growth along with roots and exhibits a moderate to fast growth rate.
