Broadleaf Bolbitis

Bolbitis heteroclita, commonly known as Broadleaf Bolbitus, is a captivating aquatic fern native to Southeast Asia, Melanesia, and parts of northeastern South Asia and Micronesia. This plant is popular in both aquariums and garden ponds due to its ornamental appeal. It prefers minimal water flow and soft, slightly acidic water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Ideally, it should be positioned with its roots attached to driftwood or rocks, and its leaves floating just above the waterline to access fresh air while keeping its roots submerged.

Broadleaf Bolbitus can be a bit sensitive, and while CO2 injection can enhance its health, it is not necessary. Regular water changes are crucial to maintain clean, oxygenated water and prevent algae buildup on the leaves. This fern is slow-growing and can be cultivated either submerged or emersed. It is best grown with its rhizome attached to hard surfaces like wood or rocks, rather than being buried in the substrate. Propagation is achieved by dividing the rhizome and replanting the sections. Bolbitis heteroclita is known for its resemblance to poison ivy leaves, making it a unique addition to any aquatic setup. It requires low light and is easy to care for, making it suitable for various aquarium environments.
