Reef Buffer™ is formulated to safely elevate the pH of your reef aquarium to 8.3 while ensuring stability and preventing accidental pH spikes. Unlike many products that rely solely on sodium bicarbonate, Reef Buffer™ uses a carefully balanced blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts, resulting in a pK value of approximately 8.6 in saltwater.

The pK value indicates the pH range where the buffer is most effective. While most reef systems have a natural pH around 8.3, the presence of organic acids from the reef's inhabitants can lower the pH more significantly compared to non-reef marine systems. Reef Buffer™'s higher pK of 8.6 provides superior buffering capacity, ensuring better pH stability in reef environments with higher bioloads. This formulation prevents the common issue where buffers with a pK of 8.3 can only achieve a pH closer to 8.0-8.2, making Reef Buffer™ ideal for maintaining optimal conditions in reef tanks.
